Men

KO-KO: Theatrical, clumsy, and cowardly, he is the most unlikely candidate for his post of Lord High Executioner. He takes great pride in having power, but can't actually bring himself to execute anyone. FANTASTIC comic timing is ESSENTIAL in this demanding role. Movement is required. (Tenor, Bb 2 to Eb 4)

NANKI-POO: The son of the Mikado, and heir to the Japanese throne. A naive hopeless romantic, he will do anything to be with Yum-Yum, even be beheaded. Nanki-Poo  needs to be the dashing, charming romantic lead without coming across as cocky.Has to be comfortable on the stage and confident in his own skin. Movement is required. (Tenor, Eb 3 to C5)

POOH-BAH: "Lord High Everything Else," from the Archbishop to the Chief of Police. He gives matter-of-fact advice from any of his many points of view, and will say anything (even state secrets) for a bribe. A fabulous schemer, a pompous man and a show off. Movement is required and Dance experience welcomed. (Tenor, A2 to Eb4)

PISH-TUSH: The coolest gentleman of Japan, he knows everything that is going on and has an opinion on it all. No matter what’s happening, he's in the middle of it. Movement is required. (Tenor, G3 to B4)

THE MIKADO: Japanese nobility, the "J. Edgar Hoover of Japan." Carefree and relaxed, he just wants every criminal's punishment to serve as entertainment, and he loves a good joke. Although his demeanor is never serious, he is very strict about following the laws of Japan, as inconvenient as they may be. Dance required, Tap welcomed but not necessarily essential, however Charisma is! (Tenor, C3 to G4)

JUNIOR: Young side-kick of Pish-Tush. Has solo singing (tenor)

CHAZUKI: Featured singing. Movement required

BLO–HY: Featured singing. Movement required

SHABU-SHABU: Featured singing. Movement required

LEN-GOO-MAN: Featured singing Movement required.

Gentlemen of Japan: Company roles

WOMEN

YUM-YUM: The middle sister, and the typical whimsical romantic heroine you’d expect from any old school movie. She is betrothed to Ko-Ko but in love with Nanki-Poo. Sweet, yet commanding. Strong movement to dance necessary. (Soprano, Bb 3 to G5)

KATISHA: Nanki-Poo's "just a teeny weeny wee bit bloodthirsty" bride-to-be. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned…. A strong actress is required to show the dual sides of Katisha: the vamp and the broken hearted woman. (Alto, E2 to B4)

PITTI-SING: The eldest of the three little maids, and the ring leader. Would do anything for her sisters! Vivacious, spunky and fun. Strong movement to dance necessary. (Belter, Eb 3 to D5)

PEEP-BO: The cute and a little bit ditzy maid…. Goes along with her other sisters. Comic timing essential. Strong movement to dance necessary. (Alto, B2 to D5)
