TreeHouse is the national charity for autism education. TreeHouse was
founded in 1997 by parents of children with autism and today we campaign
for better autism education nationally and run a school for children and
young people with autism. TreeHouse undertakes policy and parliamentary
work and research to ensure autism is a national priority, supports
parents to campaign locally and offers training and consultancy on
autism education.
One in
100 children in the UK is diagnosed with autism, a lifelong condition
which can dramatically affect every aspect of how a child experiences
the world. An appropriate education can make an immense difference, yet
the majority of children with autism are growing up without appropriate
learning opportunities.
We
believe in creating a strong foundation for all young people with
autism across the UK
At
TreeHouse School, at our National Centre for Autism Education in north
London, almost eighty pupils are receiving an education which is
tailored to their needs. They are proof that young people with profound
autism can learn and can acquire the skills needed to participate in
family and community life. But this is not enough. We want all children
with autism to have the chance to fulfil their potential.
Every
year of a child’s education counts, so the sooner we can change things,
the better. TreeHouse urgently needs your support in order to research
autism education and prove what works, develop autism training for
professionals, to shape national policy and to support families
nationally.
