Look Good...Feel Better UK
Look Good…Feel Better (LGFB) is one of the services in the UK helping
to support women with cancer. First introduced in 1994 by the Cosmetic,
Toiletry and Perfumery Association, it is supported by the Beauty
Industry.
Look Good…Feel Better helps women cancer patients combat the visible
side-effects of treatment by offering free make-up workshops through a
network of hospitals and cancer support centres nationwide.
Helping
women with cancer
After the shock of being diagnosed with cancer, many women are then
devastated by the distressing side-effects
of their treatment, some of which can dramatically change their
appearance and body image - loss of hair, eyebrows and eyelashes can be
particularly difficult to cope with. Look Good…Feel Better helps these
women in a very practical and positive way.
From small beginnings in just one hospital in London, the LGFB
Programme has achieved extensive recognition and support - not only from
members and supporters, but also from healthcare professionals - and is
now available in over 50 locations within the UK and 19 countries
worldwide.
Making a real difference
Since the Programme began in 1994, it has helped over 60,000 women with
cancer to look good and to feel better. The many letters and positive
comments the Programme receives bear testimony to the basic thinking
behind it - if you look good, you feel better - a fact recognised by the
different medical professionals involved in patients’ care and
treatment.
Studies have shown that a positive outlook and renewed confidence and
self-esteem are beneficial to patients - helping them to cope and
continue with their treatment.
